Awareness Week 2007 5 - 11 March
Endometriosis Awareness Week is a great opportunity to raise the profile of endometriosis nationally and locally. Key events that took place during the week included:
Media Coverage
We received much coverage during the week including features on radio and on GMTV, and articles in national newspapers including Metro (circ. 1 million+) and numerous stories in the local press. Thousands of our leaflets and posters were distributed by supporters.
Champagne Reception
A champagne reception sponsored by Telecityredbus.com was held in London. The event was run by Klarke Caplin, who was exhibiting her photographic project featuring women with endometriosis and based on Hitchcock movies. Amongst the guests was Michelle Dewberry, winner of ‘The Apprentice’, who has endometriosis & was photographed. It is estimated that over £2,000 will have been raised. Prints and calendars are still for sale and can be viewed at http://www.everybodysmile.biz/mangomoon/fashion.html
MP briefing and Early Day Motion
Endometriosis UK held a briefing for MPs at the House of Commons, where the charity highlighted the impact of endometriosis. We called for MPs to support their application to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) to implement new guidelines on the diagnosis and management of endometriosis. An Early Day Motion asking MPs to support this new guideline was also launched. Please write and ask your MP to sign the EDM.
"Bloody Hell" campaign
Bloody Hell, a new hard-hitting poster campaign was launched, which aims to increase understanding of the impact of endometriosis. In particular, the campaign aims to reach younger women. For information about the campaign and for copies of the poster click here.
Endometriosis Roadshows
As part of our ongoing programme of raising awareness to the pubic and health professionals, we ran two roadshows at the Birmingham Women's Hospital just before Awareness Week.
Please continue to help us
We are very grateful for the fantastic help we have received from our supporters during Awareness Week. However, it is just two weeks of the year, we need to continue to raise the profile and increase funds for our vital work all year. If you feel you can help in any way, please click on the links in the right hand column for ways you can get involved.
