Underweight 16-year-olds at greater risk

Girls who are underweight at 16 have a higher risk of endometriosis, according to a study by Dr Christina Nagle.

Dr Nagle, from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, gathered weight information from 268 women with endometriosis.

Dr Nagle said: “We suspect it may be the result of different hormonal influences before and after the first occurrence of menstruation, rather than the direct result of dietary or exercise patterns.”
